The Trust was named after the locally born Catholic Martyr, Edward Bamber. Explaining the Trust’s new logo, Stephen Tierney the Executive Director said, “There is a story that the Blessed Edward Bamber once escaped from the authorities over a bridge. The bridge is a powerful metaphor about our connectedness and the importance of transition. Our academies are rooted in their local communities and connected to the wider Catholic community especially the Catholic primary schools and parishes in the area. We aim to work together, using our combined knowledge of the different phases of schooling, to ensure we have the best transition possible from primary to secondary school and onto St. Mary’s Sixth Form. Transition is often thought about as a series of different bridges from children’s personal and social transition to their transition as learners.”
Working together, the Executive Director and the headteachers of the three academies have already implemented extended professional development opportunities for their staff to work together. Cross phase programmes are being finalised for further developing leadership, the quality of teaching and learning in Mathematics across the academies. The new Chair of the Board of Directors, Barry Leyland, emphasised the benefits of the schools working more closely together, “These professional development programmes have been deliberately chosen as we want staff from the primary and secondary schools to be working together. Their focus will be on providing a seamless education for children. Any lessons we learn will be shared with the family of Blackpool Catholic Schools and beyond. These are very exciting times.”
The formation of the Multi Academy Trust is a continuation of the partnership work of the schools The new Christ the King Parish Church, which is already being used by the parish, will be formally opened by Bishop Michael Campbell OSA in September 2014. The brand new, stunning Christ the King Catholic Academy opens its doors on the 3rd September 2014 to welcome back pupils for the new academic year.
We believe that together we can do more and be more for the young people we serve.
Update to Academy Status
We have recently been informed that Academy Orders have been issued for St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School, Christ the King Catholic Primary School & St. Mary’s Catholic College. A Shadow Academy Board has been meeting for a number of months to oversee the process of conversion and the intention is to convert to academy status on the 1st September 2014. The new academies will be named St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Academy, Christ the King Catholic Academy & St. Mary’s Catholic Academy respectively.
All three academies will be part of the Blessed Edward Bamber Catholic Multi Academy Trust. The Bishop of Lancaster has decided to name the trust after the local priest and martyr the Blessed Edward Bamber who was born in Poulton-le-Fylde.
Over the coming months the governing bodies of St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School and Christ the King Catholic Primary School & St. Mary’s Catholic College will be working closely with the Shadow Academy Board to take forward the establishment of the multi-academy trust. We have asked the headteacher to ensure, that whilst the conversion process occurs, he maintains the smooth running of the school and a high quality education for all students.
