Parent Director Election
Following the invitation for nominations for the Parent Director vacancy, I am delighted to say that there are two candidates for the vacancy. This means we will now hold a ballot.
The candidates for election are:
- Mr David Hargreaves
- Mrs Michelle Staveley
By now every family should have received their ballot forms through the post, please follow the procedure outlined in the letter regarding how to vote.
May I remind you that ballot forms need to be in the envelopes provided with the information completed on the larger of the two return envelopes, and that the deadline for ballot forms to be received at St Mary’s is 9.00 a.m. on Wednesday 19 October 2016. If you are not able to bring your ballot form into St Mary’s please return it to:

Parent Director Election
I am writing to you to invite you to stand for election as a parent director, or nominate another parent to do so. In the Blessed Edward Bamber Catholic Multi Academy Trust we have provision for two parent directors. This vacancy is for a parent director who has a child at St. Mary’s Catholic Academy. Nominations must be from parents (this includes carers) with children at the academy on the day that nominations close. The post is for four years.
The Board of Directors, with the CEO and headteachers, has overall responsibility for the running of the academies. The Board of Directors has three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the Executive Director and headteachers to account for the educational performance of the academies and its pupils; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the academy and making sure its money is well spent.
No special qualifications are needed and the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the academies and be prepared to play an active part in the board’s work. Training is available for all directors and this board of directors has an expectation that those new to being a director attend free induction training.
Primary School Places
On the 18th April 2016, Blackpool & Lancashire Local Authorities will inform parents of the primary school their child has been allocated to. Not all parents will necessarily receive their first choice of school. If your child has not been allocated a place at Christ the King Catholic Academy or St. Cuthbert's Catholic Academy and you would like to try to secure a place for them please contact the school directly for an appeals form. The school will be able to also provide you with a list of key dates for submitting appeals and an outline of the process.
We would strongly advise you not to reject the place at the school your child has been allocated until you hear the outcome of the Appeals process.
Timetable for St. Mary's Catholic Academy Appeals
On the 1st March 2016, Blackpool & Lancashire Local Authorities will inform parents of the secondary school their child has been allocated to. Not all parents will necessarily receive their first choice of school. For September 2016, the full allocation of 210 student places has been made at St. Mary’s Catholic Academy. If your child has not been allocated a place at St. Mary’s and you would like to try to secure a place for them please follow the process below. We would strongly advise you not to reject the place at the school your child has been allocated until you hear the outcome of the Appeals process.
